Sales career

Sales is notorious for being one of the toughest jobs out there. Sales turnover is high, salaries are often based on sales, and not everyone is cut out for the job. There are a few things that anyone who is considering taking a sales job should remember. Here are three essential bits of sales career advice for anyone who wants to take a sales job.

1. Always Be Persistent.
One of the most important things a sales person can be is persistent. About 44% of salespeople will give up on a sale after being told no, but it can take up to a year for a client to say yes. It’s important to always follow up on leads, and often. Don’t take no for an answer. Check in with prospects as often as you can and don’t let them think you’ve forgotten about them.

2. Stay Up on Technology.
Another important bit of sales career advice is to always stay up on technology. Be the first to learn a new presentation tool or video calling service. Clients these days expect high tech presentations and you’ll need to be able to deliver. Additionally, expect to give presentations in a number of different settings, so you’ll need to be prepared to use everything from a white board to an Apple television.

3. Network, network, network.
People who are successful in sales jobs are usually masters at networking — you never know which personal connection is going to lead to a sale. This means you should be using all of your networks to their fullest potentials — even mixing your personal and professional connections. Connect with people using Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, but also make sure to meet people in person as often as possible.
